A TOP training centre in Milton Keynes will help a van hire and fleet solutions company teach a new intake of apprentices.

The Mercedes-Benz Training Centre in Tongwell will be used by 12 apprentices taken on by Northgate Vehicle Hire on block release courses.

Northgate is a national vehicle hire and fleet solutions firm with a local centre in Kiln Farm, Burners Lane South.

Northgate is investing in 30 new apprentices, 12 of whom will be specifically trained on a certified Mercedes-Benz programme with the remaining 18 honing their skills via the Ford Masters Apprenticeship programme, in Daventry or Blackpool. The intake adds to 40-plus apprentices already employed by Northgate.

The Mercedes-Benz Apprentice Programme will be managed by the Mercedes-Benz in-house Apprentice Management Team.

Ian Dunn, head of training at Northgate, said: “We are continuing to focus on growing the number of apprentices throughout Northgate, as this form of recruitment into the company has proven to be a highly effective way of securing future talent. The quality of the screening process in the recruitment of these apprentices ensures that we have only the most highly capable, motivated and enthusiastic young people entering the company, strengthening our commitment to providing the best levels of customer service at all times.”
