A new campaign has been launched in Milton Keynes to get businesses to support a local charity for the homeless.

Business in the Community (BITC), which promotes responsible companies, is supporting Open Door a charity based in The Food Centre, Avebury Boulevard.

Open Door runs Drop In Centres in Conniburrow and Bletchley and provides a meal, advice and support to those who are street homeless or vulnerably housed and helps them to re connect with society.

The Drop In Centres served more than 1,300 meals in 2011/12 and one saw an increase of 59 per cent in guests using the service for the first time.

Businesses in Milton Keynes can help support Open Door through signing up to the 2012 BITC Christmas Gift appeal. Businesses who register will receive materials to set up a donation point within their workplace.

Donations welcome include: toiletries, toothbrushes, razors, tinned food, non perishable foodstuffs such as noodles, tea, coffee (small packets).

Mike Toy, community impact officer at BITC said: “Supporting local charities like Open Door at Christmas allows individual employees to support their community and creates a feel good factor amongst the workforce. Businesses in Milton Keynes have a strong record of supporting local groups and we hope they are inspired to make a difference this Christmas.”
