Fifty-nine year old Tina Temple, pictured, believes it is never too late in life to start your own business.
Tina, who lives in Fury Court, Crownhill, Milton Keynes, was made redundant from a firm through that horrible word “downsizing”.
It was the third time that Tina had been made redundant and found herself having had to decide whether to go for another job working for someone else or going it alone.
She said: “After the third time in 25 years I felt I needed to work for myself.”
So after a family discussion she decided to set up her own mobile dog grooming business with a really snappy name – Ultimuttz Dog Grooming MKt.
Like many businesspeople before her, Tina had to find the demand for a product to sell. Her Eureka moment was, as a dog lover, she found it difficult to get an appointment to get her own pet groomed.
So she went to a residential course in Manchester to become a dog groomer and is now a City & Guilds qualified Dog Groomer.
The purchase of a van followed and the challenge of fitting it out to the necessary standard.
Marketing was another aspect to get to grips with. She embraced social media and built a Facebook presence.
Tina added added: “If you are thinking of starting a business don’t let age be a barrier to your dreams, seize the opportunity to work for yourself and become your own boss!”
