A FREE event giving face to face tax help and advice to people starting out as employers, newly VAT registered or self-employed will be held in Central Milton Keynes on Thursday (January 26).

The HM Revenue & Customs’ (HMRC) Employer and Business Event will take place at Acorn House, Midsummer Boulevard, Milton Keynes from 9.15am to 3.30pm.

Laurence Walford, events team leader at HMRC said: “This event is a ‘not to be missed’ opportunity to get on track from the earliest days of a business. Our advisers will discuss the nature of the business and explain what’s required as well as how we can help now and in the future. That might include advice on payroll for those taking on new staff, getting to grips with online filing, or setting up a limited company. We’ll also be explaining how VAT works, and talking about the various schemes and initiatives that can support businesses and ease the administrative burden.”

During the day there will be eight 30 minute presentations. All the presentations run alongside a small exhibition area where advisors will be on hand to offer one-to-one advice.

With the Olympics just around the corner, there will be a seminar which will look at competing for commercial opportunities around London 2012.

And with the January 31 self assessment deadline approaching, those about to file a return online will also be able to access help and advice at another presentation on online filing.

Other exhibitors at the event include the Health and Safety Executive.
