A CHARITY cafe has re-opened after firms rallied round to carry out a revamp.

Age UK Milton Keynes joined forces with a team from banking giants Santander at the Drop-In Centre and Snack & Chat cafe in Central Milton Keynes.

Renovation work was carried out over seven days, supported by two other local firms. Family-run Monarch Carpets and Flooring, in Sorrell Drive, Newport Pagnell, laid the carpeting for free, and Brewers, decorator’s merchants, in Bletchley and Bradwell Abbey, provided materials at cost price.

The Santander team also donated £500 for materials at the cafe, overlooking Theatre District from the first floor of the Food Centre. The adjoining drop-in centre offers information and advice including computer classes for older people. The refurbished premises re-opened on July 11.

Jane Palmer, chief executive of Age UK Milton Keynes said: “The Santander team have been such a support to us over the years, and it’s good to see Monarch and Brewers were happy to join in the fun.”
