THREE hundred local businesses raised £14,000 for SportsAid at the MK Sporting Lunch Club Christmas Lunch.

A Jury’s Inn room was packed with people attending the lunch to meet and be entertained by cricket heroes Darren Gough and Chris Cowdrey.

The event was one of the best attended recent history for the popular bi-monthly events organised by Roger and Sally Fennemore.

Local aspiring cricketer Laura Tonks was presented with a cheque for £500 from SportsAid by Darren Gough and Chris Butterwick of featured sponsor Grant Thornton.

Mr Butterwick said: ”We are delighted to sponsor the MK Sporting Lunch Club and commend the excellent work that SportsAid carry out supporting promising youth sport in the Milton Keynes region.

“Sally and Roger work tirelessly to stage these large events that raise significant sums of money through the generosity of local businesses. We and our fellow sponsors are proud to be associated with the SportsAid charity which we will continue to support.”

The ceremony received television coverage as BBC Look East were filming the cricketer. His legendary bowling hatrick in test cricket had been eclipsed the previous day by Peter Siddle in the first match of the current Ashes tour of Australia.
