A rising star in the world of accountancy has scooped a top industry award.

Jonathan Simons, 22, assistant audit manager at business and financial advisers Grant Thornton, in Silbury Boulevard, Milton Keynes, was named Newly Qualified Accountant of the Year at the annual PQ Magazine Awards.

Mr Simons joined Grant Thornton in 2008 after completing his A-Levels and has already received a top commendation for his work at the British Accountancy Awards, held last November.

David Newstead, practice leader at Grant Thornton’s Milton Keynes office said: “The award is a fitting tribute to the hard work and dedication shown by Jonathan over the past year and throughout his time with Grant Thornton.”

Graham Hambly, PQ Magazine’s editor, said: “Jonathan seemed to us to be the perfect newly qualified accountant, every employers dream. Despite his tender age he is a champion at work and he was also a champion in our eyes.”

Mr Simons said it is a fantastic feeling to receive this award amongst industry peers and some top names in the accounting industry.
