Two city firms make top 100 buyout list

TWO Milton Keynes companies featured in a list of Britain’s 100 top private equity-backed companies as measured by profit growth over the last two years of available accounts.

Schools operator Cognita, at Diamond Court, Opal Drive, in Fox Milne, weighed in as the top MK company at number 31 on the Sunday Times Deloitte Buyout Track 100.

According to the rankings Cognita showed 54.4 per cent growth and recorded in excess of £26million profit in August 2009. The company had 2,937 employees and was 81 per cent owned by Begal Capital, with management holding 19 per cent of the shares.

Food producer and distributor Adelie Food, at Tanners Drive, Blakelands, was at number 47. It recorded a near 40 per cent profit growth up to £12.8million in October 2009 and is owned almost 50:50 by Duke Street Capital and its management.

Across the south east region 21 companies on the list employ 22,750 people, adding 3,300 jobs over the last two years, generating £280m profit.
