A second John Lewis distribution centre at a burgeoning development site in Milton Keynes is set to bring up to 450 new jobs to the city.
The retailer is investing £97million on its fourth site in Milton Keynes which they say is ideally located to serve its customers who are increasinly shopping online.
A group of VIPs, including Milton Keynes South MP Iain Stewart, took part in a ground-breaking ceremony earlier today (Tuesday) at the site in Magna Park, which also hosts River Island and soft drinks firm AG Barr.
Dino Rocos, John Lewis’s operations director, said: “We looked at other locations but kept coming back to Milton Keynes.”
He said the new city’s transport links and “strong calibre” workforce makes it an ideal location. He also praised the “very supportive” attitude of Milton Keynes Council.
The new 668,000 sq-ft centre is likely to be built by February next year and fitted out and working within 18 months.
MP Mr Stewart said it was good news for the city.
