Waitrose has announced a significant expansion of its distribution operations in Milton Keynes.
The retailer has completed the lease of a new 300,000 sq-ft, warehouse at Anderson Gate in South West Milton Keynes.
The new site is just a few miles from Waitrose’s existing warehouse in Brinklow.
This acquisition enables Waitrose’s distribution operation in Milton Keynes to service more branches as part of the company’s growth strategy.
The new warehouse will free up more space for fresh foods in Waitrose’s existing Brinklow warehouse by accommodating the business’s grocery goods operation.
The new warehouse, which will employ around 60 staff, will be operated as part of the Brinklow complex by Waitrose’s third party logistics provider Kuehne and Nagel.
David Jones, Waitrose supply chain director, said: “This new site means that our supply chain will be well placed to cope with our rapid expansion over the next few years.
“We will be extending our capacity for fresh foods providing a platform for us to grow this area of our business in the future.”
Waitrose currently has four regional distribution centres: Brinklow in Milton Keynes, Bardon in Leicestershire, Aylesford and Bracknell.
