A CITY charity is celebrating after all its participants managed to complete the epic Kilimanjaro challenge.

On Friday, February 25, 12 women and four men scaled the 5,895 trail to raise money for Climb Your Mountain.

The ages of the team ranged from 25 to 54 and all had their own reasons for taking part in the challenge, with one woman even completing it despite being diagnosed with cancer just a year before.

The team was led by Tunzo Madeghe, who carries out seasonal, summer work at Woburn Safari Park.

In the last 20 years Tunzo has climbed the mountain 220 times.

He is considered to be one of the world’s best lead guides and most experienced Kilimanjaro climber.

Now many of those who took part are looking to either complete the challenge again or take part in one of the other fundraising challenges including the Great Wall of China Trek, The Inca Trail or the trek to Everest Base Camp.

Speaking on the success, founder of Climb Your Mountain, Charlie Wardle, said: “What a fantastic achievement by everyone in the team.

“Not only have they experienced something very special personally but the charity relies on these fundraising challenges for its funding, so everyone involved knows they are making a real difference to many people’s lives.”
