AFTER nearly 18 months, the bridge on Secklow Gate re-opened last week.

At 11pm on Thursday June 30, two lanes of traffic were opened for public use, with the other two expected to be opened by the end of this week.

In January 2010, a fire broke out in the market underneath the bridge, causing damage significant enough to prompt Milton Keynes Council to close it off to road users, while compensation and insurance claims were sought to repair the struts.

And after much debate in the council chamber, members of Xplain, a citizens’ group who fought to find out answers why the repairs were delayed, celebrated on the bridge on Friday.
