GENEROUS people across Milton Keynes have been praised by a charity for their donations over the festive period.
SaferMK has issued a public ‘thank you’ to everyone who gave a Christmas gift during their campaign for women and children in domestic refuges.
There was a huge response, with children’s and women’s clothes, toys, books and toiletries being donated.
Refuges provide a safe house for women and children where they can live free from violence and abuse. They offer temporary accommodation, as well as help and support to those fleeing a violent home. Last year, Milton Keynes refuges provided a safe haven to 79 women and 96 children.
Irene Chittenden, head of services at MK-ACT said: “I would like to say an enormous thank you to people in Milton Keynes for their overwhelming generosity. Women and their children in our refuges each had a gift to unwrap on Christmas morning.
“Christmas can be a difficult time for those who have left their homes. The women felt grateful to know that people were thinking of them.
“We received so many donations, there were many items left over after giving everyone a Christmas gift.
“The extra donations, especially clothing and toiletries, will be invaluable to help those who arrive with us throughout the year.”
