A city hairdressing student will be representing the UK on the international stage after being crowned Hairdressing Student of the Year 2013.

Rochelle Winkworth, 18, who studies at Milton Keynes College, will be representing the UK at the Young Promises Show at Look International 2013 – known as the Spanish Hair Olympics – as well as working backstage at London Fashion Week.

She said: “I wanted to do something which hadn’t really been done before and to create lots of different textures in the hair. There were so many brilliant competitors that I just can’t believe that I’ve won. I’m in shock.

“The prize is just fantastic and will be great experience for me. I plan to do my Level 3 qualification here at Milton Keynes College before hopefully getting a job in the fashion side of the industry.

“It really is an excellent course. We get brilliant training and real experience in the Francesco Hair Salon, The Graduate, at the College.

College Head of Hair & Beauty, Debbie Houghton said: “Rochelle has only been studying her craft since September 2011 and has demonstrated outstanding skills and ability during her time with us. It speaks volumes about her hard work and the help she’s had from people here that she’s managed this fantastic and well-deserved achievement.”

Hours after winning that competition Rochelle jetted off to America as part of the MK Cheerleading Academy team taking part in a major international event in Florida.
