A Bannatyne’s Health Club member has released a book detailing how he managed to lose more than six stone and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Barry Landsberg, 63, a city-based Product Manager made the decision to lose weight after being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, a condition that causes blood sugar levels to become too high.
The book entitled, ‘Becoming an Ex-diabetic’ goes into detail about Barry’s physical and mental journey to a healthier lifestyle and gives insight into the ‘mental models’ that he used.
Barry has been a member at Bannatyne’s for more than 11 years and says the health club has been a vital component in maintaining his impressive weight loss. Throughout his time as a member, Barry has used the facilities and worked with personal trainers to complete two half marathons and a one mile swim.
Thanks to his weight loss and lifestyle change of healthier eating and physical exercise, Barry has been removed from the diabetes register and his blood sugar continues to remain at a very healthy level.
Barry said: “I was the very last person you would expect to lose weight, my love for food and loathing of exercise made for a very unhealthy combination. Following the news of my diabetes, I knew that I had put myself in this situation and only I could make the changes to live a healthier lifestyle. After altering the way I think and gaining positive results, the book is a way to share my experience and hopefully be an inspiration to others.
“Bannatyne’s support of healthy lifestyles has been essential in maintaining my weight loss and the facilities are fantastic. The staff are friendly and it makes it so much easier to motivate yourself in a supportive and encouraging environment.”
Melissa Treharne, General Manager at Bannatyne’s Health Club in Milton Keynes, said: “It has been such a pleasure watching Barry achieve his goals over the years and his determination to maintain his healthy lifestyle is great. His weight loss and mental attitude is an inspiration to everybody, especially those with similar health concerns. Barry works hard with our personal trainers to keep his exercise varied and we are delighted we could be a part of such a positive change in Barry’s life.
