Would you Adam and Eve it – genuine Cockney pie and mash is proving a smash hit at a pub in Milton Keynes?

The puff pastry pies, spuds and famous green liquor gravy are cooked in Angel Islington and driven down to Bletchley every Monday night.

They are proving a firm favourite with customers of the Eight Bells, whose staff have now started a takeaway service to meet the demand.

“We get through 100 portions in no time,” said manager Wayne Bell. “There are a lot of ex Londoners round here and they really appreciate some genuine pie and mash.”

One customer even took a plateful to his elderly gran who was in hospital – and swears it helped her recover.

The Buckingham Road pub claims it is the only place in Milton Keynes to serve the London delicacy. Now they are considering adding jellied eels to the menu.

The pub will celebrate its Cockney culinary success with a pie, mash and ale festival on May 23 and 24.

Meanwhile pie and mash nights is served every Monday. Booking is advised.
