Fire destroys barn at Astwood

Fire crews worked through the night to tackle a dramatic blaze at Astwood on Wednesday night.

It’s believed the fire started at around 7.30pm inside farm buildings containing hay and straw, off the A422 main Bedford to Newport Pagnell road. Appliances from Newport Pagnell, Olney and Broughton were called out to the isolated spot, about half a mile from the main road.

Witnesses said the scene was a spectacular ball of flames rising high into the night sky and could be seen for miles. Passing motorists stopped to take photos and videos and some said the heat could be felt from the road.

The fire burned all night with crews still at the scene on Thursday morning. Bucks Fire & Rescue are investigating.
