UCMK students and staff took to the big footballing stage at stadium:mk – the home of the MK Dons – to take part in a seven-a-side tournament.
The invitation to UCMK,part of the University of Bedfordshire,to participate in the ‘Partners Tournament’ follows the University becoming official partner of MK Dons Academy teams for the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons.
The University launched its official partnership with the League One club in October 2013, when it became the lead sponsor of seven MK Dons Academy teams, ranging from Under-9s to Under-15s.
While the UCMK side may not have distinguished themselves on the field, mustering four losses and a draw in the 6-team tournament, student Lee Warren, who took part, said the UCMK team had thoroughly enjoyed their day out.
The postgraduate Sport and Exercise Science student commented: “It was wonderful that, as a partner of MK Dons, we were lucky enough to play at this incredible stadium. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I was lucky enough to score a goal too, so that’s certainly a memory I will never forget!”
Paul Sant, Associate Dean of UCMK, added: “I’m delighted that the University of Bedfordshire, through UCMK, is getting behind the Academy and showing support to grass roots football in the Milton Keynes area.
“Our partnership also helps to highlight to young people how important education is, and shows the way to an alternative bright future for those who may not make it as a professional footballer. I’m delighted that we will partner the MK Dons Academy for a second season.”
Additional features of the partnership include corporate sponsorship, which has seen the University’s brand across various MK Dons digital and print platforms, communications to all academy players, and big screen adverts at stadiummk.
