Sixty six years ago Mick Moon accepted a bet that would change his life forever, and after celebrating his diamond wedding anniversary, he’s more convinced than ever he made the right decision.
In 1947, then aged 18, Mick was bet a shilling by Tessa Warren – his future sister-in-law – that he would not ask Betty, then 17, out on a date.
However, that was a bet he was only too happy to accept, and this year, just before his 84th birthday, Mick says he still shares a joke with Tessa about that bet – and he still shows off the lucky shilling from time to time.
The happy couple were married in 1953, after Mick did his national service in the RAF, and they haven’t looked back since. They have two children, Philip and Carol.
