Milton Keynes escaped the worst of the Christmas and New Year weather misery – but areas were left under water following the stormy gales and heavy rain.

One reader, Mr Jan Stivrins, captured these scenes of flooding at Stony Stratford and Old Wolverton over the Christmas break.

One image shows the pitch at Stony Stratford FC under water. Fortunately the club did not have a fixture over Christmas. Another shows the area alongside Queen Eleanor Street and the Bird Sanctuary at Stony Stratford which was also completely water-logged.

The deluge of rain also caused flooding on the roads at Old Wolverton.

There was more bad weather over the New Year period with gales and heavy downpours, but the forecast for the weekend is brighter.

An Environment Agency spokesman said: “We urge people to stay safe and avoid driving or walking through flood water and check our website for advice and sign up for flood warnings.”
