Macmillan Cycletta, the UK’s leading women only cycle series, returns this

Sunday, June 29,with medallist and local girl, Victoria Pendleton leading the pack in the grounds of Woburn Abbey

Bedfordshire-born Victoria is Team GB’s most successful female cycling Olympian ever

with one silver and two gold medals. Prior of the event, Victoria shared some reassuring tips for

women preparing to enter their first Sportive event.“Don’t be afraid of the distance. Most people of average fitness can manage a 40km bike ride

quite easily without lots of training. It isn’t a marathon so don’t worry, just enjoy it!”

“Geta pair of padded cycling shorts “essential for comfort – as -without them you risk getting sore

which will ruin your ride!”

“It’s best to layer clothes so you can remove them as you warm up, and take a wind proof top

and sunglasses.

“Cycling gloves are essential for comfort and protection: if you fall off and injure the palm of

your hand you can’t cycle again until it’s healed because it’s too painful.”

“Wear sunscreen on all exposed skin and be aware that areas like your fingers (in fingerless

gloves), and shins are particularly vulnerable when you cycle.”

“It’s important to drink regularly and eat during a sportive. The amount you need to drink will

depend upon how fit you are as well as the weather.”

The hub will be the event village at Woburn Abbey where Victoria Pendleton will be joined

by lucky competition winners and aspirational women that are taking part in the event, due

to challenges they have overcome in the face of cancer and been helped through by official

event charity, Macmillan Cancer Support.

Together with fellow riders they will have the opportunity to meet other experts for advice

ranging from fitness and nutrition to looking like a champion during and after exercise.

Post ride, all riders also enjoy the opportunity to relax, refresh and rejuvenate in the

Macmillan Cycletta Spa provided by Unlisted London, who will be offering a complimentary

spa experience as well as tips on beauty fitness and well-being.

The event will also include giant jenga, a colour zone and face-painting for kids. There will also be a scootathlon for the kids on the day, a fun, mini version of triathlon, where children can scoot (approx 400m),

cycle (approx 400m) and run (approx 250m) to glory!

Entries for the full Macmillan Cycletta Bedfordshire cycling event and the kids’ scootathlon

will be available on the day. The cost to enter the scootathlon is just £5.50 and the

Macmillan Cycletta event can be entered by showing up on the day, one hour early, and

paying the event entry cost, by cash or cheque only (plus a £5 admin fee).
