Top dog Pearl, an American cocker spaniel, won a Best in Group award for Gundogs at Crufts.

Pearl, aged two, owned by Susan Crummey and Jason Lynn, of Bletchley, went on to compete for the prestigious title of Best in Show against just six other dogs narrowly missing out on the Best in Show prize.

Pearl was named after the 1977 Elkie Brooks’ hit Pearl’s a Singer.

Proud owner, Susan said: “I can’t believe it. It’s something you always dream about.

She’s a real show dog and loves competing. It’s all the more important as this year she’s being retired and to reach Best in Show was incredible.”

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary, said: “Reaching the Best in Show final at Crufts is a fabulous achievement for any dog and we were delighted to see Pearl chosen as the Best in Group winner.

“She is such a lovely dog that clearly loves being in the show ring and has a great relationship with her handler.”

More than 21,000 dogs competed over the four days for the chance to win Crufts’ most celebrated title.

Only seven dogs made it all the way through to the final, which was watched by thousands in the arena and millions more worldwide on TV.

Ricky, a two-year-old fluffy poodle from Preston won Best in Show.
