Page-turning youngsters are hoping to refurbish their school library after reading as many books as possible during a sponsored read.

Children at Russell Street School embraced the challenge which coincided with the StonyWords festival.

They had a visit from a professional storyteller and visited Stony Stratford Library for a storytelling session.

A ‘Books at Bedtime Day’ saw students wear pyjamas to school to share their favourite story with their friends.

Headteacher, Sarah Lewis, said: “We hope as well as raising the funds for our library we see a positive outcome in terms of reading habits too.”

The school has also had pledges from businesses to buy new books to fill the library as part of the Usborne Books Community Book Pledge scheme. Businesses who would like to make a pledge can call Vicki Offin on 07896 268038.
