Tomorrow evening, ITV 1 will host The Nation’s Favourite Elvis Song, counting down 20 of the undisputed King’s best musical moments.
The show will include guest appearances by artists including Cliff Richard, Michael Buble and Darlene Love.
Complementing the television event, Sony Music this week issued a brand new 20 track greatest hits album, cunningly titled The Nation’s Favourite Elvis Songs.
The disc features all of the contenders doing battle for the crown: Suspicious Minds, Love Me Tender, Heartbreak Hotel and The Wonder of You sitting among a package of plenty.
One of the most important figures in 20th century popular music, Elvis Presley holds the record for the most No1 singles in the UK, having hit the top spot no fewer than 21 times.
His legacy and outstanding contribution to music is as influential today, as it ever was.
Those hip swivels and that quivering lip made plenty of friends, but it was his unmistakable vocal ability that turned him into a global phenomenon.
And Michael Buble, one of today’s most favoured vocalists, knows why: “God kissed his throat,” he explains.
