Thousands of people had a splashing good time at the official opening of the new Wolverton pool.

Mayor of Milton Keynes, Councillor Catriona Morris, cut the ribbon on the completed £7 million project before around 1,600 people jumped in over the weekend. 4,000 more came in just for a look around.

The new facility includes a 25 metre swimming pool with a learner pool next door as well as a sauna and steam room. Next door there will be an air conditioned fitness centre, opening on Saturday, which will include a multi-purpose studio which will hold more than 30 classes a week.

Paul Sanders, Milton Keynes Council’s project sponsor said: ”This project represents a £7million investment into community facilities in Wolverton and will most certainly make a huge contribution to getting the Wolverton and wider communities more active and healthy.”

Councillor Peter Geary, Cabinet member for communities said: “This is a fantastic new facility for Milton Keynes. The pool and fitness centre has been delivered on time and on budget thanks to the close working relationship between the council, Wolverton Pool Trust and contractors. We are continually aiming to improve the leisure offer in Milton Keynes and there will be more to come in the future.”
