Court injunction for man who couldn't stop talking to women

A 42-year-old man with a habit of trying to talk to young women has been banned from causing a nuisance to females all over Milton Keynes.

Davinder Mehmi of Granby Court is now the subject of an injunction order under anti-social behaviour legislation.

Police say Mehmi approached women in Milton Keynes, often at the MK1 retail park, on numerous occasions,

He would attempt to engage them in conversation, and then turned the talk towards a sexual nature, making the women feel “uncomfortable and distressed”.

Police joined forces with MK Council for an inunction to be granted, with the power of arrest, at Oxford Crown Court.

PC Dave Goodwin, Milton Keynes Anti-Social Behaviour Officer, said: “This is an excellent result and I would like to thank all the witnesses involved for coming forward and supplying the overwhelming evidence in this case.

“Mehmi has been approaching mainly young women for a number of years and behaving in this manner. About 18 months ago officers identified a series of incidents at the MK1 retail park. He approached several women in different shops.

“None of the victims were aware of each other and all believed they were alone in being targeted. Several premises in MK1 banned Mehmi, but he often continued to visit. Working in partnership, the injunction order was identified as a means to protect the public.

“I am of the opinion that Mehmi knows what he is doing and how his behaviour impacts on others.”

Mehmi is now forbidden from engaging in conduct that is likely to cause a nuisance, or is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to any person in the government area of Milton Keynes.

He is banned from entering a specified geographical area and from engaging in or threatening violence to any person in a designated area.

Linda Ellen, Head of Housing at Milton Keynes Council said: “‘We are really pleased with the result at court following a considerable legal process where extensive evidence of anti-social behaviour was presented at court.

“The use of an injunction, under the ASB, Crime and Policing Act 2014, addresses the serious concerns about Mehmi’s behaviour towards women predominantly in a particular location (MK1, Bletchley), and will provide protection and reassurance for those working in and visiting the area.
