Crime: Charity teams up with Tesco

Householders have been given a new way to protect their valuables following the launch of Crimestoppers Property Protector, available from Tesco Extra stores across the UK.

Manufacturer Stealth Mark has teamed up with Tesco to create the Crimestoppers-branded product sold in Tesco Extra stores.

With home burglaries happening at a rate of more than one a minute, according to a British Crime Survey published by The Home Office in July, the Crimestoppers initiative is being marketed is an effective low cost solution to deterring crime.

Each bottle provides up to 200 applications and comes with deterrent stickers for home and valuables.

It uses a patented, police approved technology licensed under the ACPO, Secured by Design accreditation scheme.

The clear liquid solution has a unique code for each bottle. Simply by dabbing a small amount of Crimestoppers Property Protector onto valuable items you give them their own coded fingerprint.

Actor Graham Cole, who played PC Tony Stamp in ITV1’s The Bill is supporting the venture and will appear at selected in-store demonstrations, he said: “I played the part of a police officer for 27 years and I’m now pleased to support a real crime-fighting effort. Crimestoppers plays a vital role in helping make our streets safer.

Deputy chief executive for Crimestoppers, Dave Cording, said: “This is a first for Crimestoppers and we are encouraged that Tesco has agreed to stock this unique product across the UK within their stores.”
