A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a police officer was hit by a stolen taxi.

A search was launched after a taxi driver was forced from his vehicle by two men and two women in Stony Stratford High Street in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

The stolen VW Passat car was later reversed at the officer, pinning him against his patrol car, police said.

A 29-year-old man is being questioned.

The vehicle was found in the Hodge Lea Lane just after 3am.

A police spokeswoman said: “Officers got out of their vehicle to inspect the car, when it reversed unexpectedly and pinned one of the officers to their patrol car, before leaving the scene.

“The vehicle was recovered shortly afterwards in Grangers Croft.

“The injured officer was taken to Milton Keynes General Hospital for treatment to his injuries where he remains at this time in a stable condition.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them.
