Man is summonsed in connection with causing the death of five-year-old Riley Ferguson

A man has been summonsed to appear in court in connection with causing the death of a five-old boy nine months ago.

Little Riley Ferguson was involved in a collision with a car while he was playing in the driveway outside his Monkston home on a Sunday afternoon last June.

The driveway was shared by three terraced houses in the small cul-de-sac, an inquest opening heard.

Riley, who had been playing with another child, suffered a devastating brain injury and died days later.

Today police announced 41-year-old David Cowell has been issued with a summons to attend court in connection with the offence of causing death through careless/inconsiderate driving.

A police spokesman said: “The summons relates to an incident in which a vehicle collided with a pedestrian in Woodspring Court on 7 June 2015.”

He added: “The pedestrian, Riley Ferguson, aged five, subsequently died on 11 June 2015”

Mr Cowell, who lives in Deacon Crescent, Middleton, is due to appear at Milton Keynes Magistrates’ Court next month.

Riley attended St Bernadette’s Catholic School, where his headteacher Maxine Clew described him as “a little boy full of brightness.”
