POLICE had to be called to William Hill, Newport Pagnell after a punter turned violent when he lost a substantial amount in the bookies.

The man was playing on one of the virtual slot machines when he turned violent, pulling and punching the machine. Eye-witness Kevin Ellis said: “I had my back to the machine he was on and all of a sudden I heard him shouting saying ‘£1,000, £1,000 for Christmas’.

“He was shouting at two women behind the counter. I didn’t want to go and collect my winnings in case he turned on me.”

The man is described as mid 20s, of a medium build, and of eastern European descent.

Police confirmed they were called to the scene but the man had already left. They said he had lost around £600.
