Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses to an incident in which a 26-year-old man suffered injuries to his face in the early hours of Saturday morning.

At about 3.30am, the victim and a friend left the Groove nightclub in Lower Twelfth Street when they were approached by three men close to the Dome area of the Theatre District.

One of the three men punched the victim in the head, causing him to fall to the ground and bang his head, resulting in swelling and bruising.

The man who threw the punch was white, 6ft, aged between 19 and 25 years old, with slight stubble and short spiky hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt, a grey cardigan which was undone at the front, and black skinny jeans or trousers.

After the attack, the offender made off in the direction of Xscape.

PC Ben Waite, investigating officer, said: “This was an unprovoked attack on a man resulting in him receiving a nasty injury to his face.

“I would like to speak to anyone who saw the incident, or who recognises the description of the offender.”

If you can help, please call PC Waite via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 101. If you don’t want to speak to police or leave your name, call the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of ABH but he has been released without charge.
