PEOPLE will have the chance to rekindle their love of cycling tomorrow by taking on a heart shaped route at Willen Lake.
Riders can take in the views of the lake, the Peace Pagoda, the Stone Circle as well as many other attractions around the route.
The event will start at 11am at the Stone Circle, when the Mayor of Milton Keynes, councillor Catriona Morris, on behalf of Milton Keynes Council, will be presented with a cycling jersey from British Cycling to recognise their ongoing partnership with them. Milton Keynes Council and British Cycling work closely together to promote cycling as an enjoyable leisure and health activity as well as a sustainable form of transport.
The cycle ride itself will be started by the Mayor at 11:30am and will follow a 3.6 mile heart-shaped route around the lake at a leisurely pace.
You can cycle with friends or family or just on your own as the route is suitable for all ages and abilities. Cycle leaders are fully trained by British Cycling and provide riders with motivation, advice and support to ensure they get the most out of their cycling.
The cycle ride has been organised through the Council, British Cycling, Breeze and the Cycle Your Heart Out team to raise awareness of the sport and to give cyclists the opportunity to fall back in love with their bicycles!
Sarah Bayaidah created the Cycle Your Heart Out initiative to help inspire others to cycle a heart shaped route for a cause they love. The rides are a great way to combine an “active lifestyle and a caring heart”.
People can visit the site to try out previous heart-shaped routes, or have fun creating their own. Cycling is a low cost way to get around and keep your heart healthy and every member of the family can get involved.
Peter Cox from British Cycling, said: “This ride provides a great opportunity for people to enjoy Milton Keynes’ unique Redway network whilst celebrating the council’s on-going partnership with British Cycling. This ride will also help to raise the profile of Breeze and Sky Ride Local cycling programmes that run across Milton Keynes throughout the year.”
There are many other cycling activities in and around Milton Keynes throughout the year so if you’ve fallen back in love with cycling check out the other events at www.milton-keynes.gov.uk/cycle-mk or visit www.goskyride.com to find a ride near you.
If you want to take part register at: www.cycleyourheartout.com and you will also be entered into a competition to win a handmade Cycle Your Heart Out necklace.
