A teenage cyclist was taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries last night (Thursday) following a collision with a car on the V7 Saxon Street in Milton Keynes.

It happened just before 6pm close to the entrance to The Milton Keynes Academy. The road was closed for around three and a half hours.

The female cyclist, aged 19, suffered serious head injuries, as well as a broken leg.

She was rushed to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford where she underwent emergency surgery.

This morning her condition has been described as serious but stable.

The driver of the white Fiat 500 involved, a 22-year-old local woman, was treated for shock but was otherwise uninjured.
