A Bradwell dad of two is hoping to achieve a new world record after riding a special cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

Idai Makaya, aged 42, made the trip over five days and 4 minutes, beating the current record for crossing Britain on an elliptical cycle of 6 days and 10 hours. The bike is different as the rider does not sit down and Idai’s attempt is now awaiting declaration by Guinness World Records in the next few weeks.

The experience long distance cyclist reached his destination on Tuesday, May 31, even after his cycle suffered a bearing failure which had to be repaired.

Idai, who works in fitness training and online bike sales, said: “The bike’s standing posture makes it less aerodynamic than traditional cycles, giving a tougher fitness workout. But the bikes are comfortable to ride and still reasonably quick, when used by experienced riders.”
