The countdown to Strictly MK has now officially started with just three weeks to go before the big night on October 26.
But the glittering event may never have become a reality but for home grown success story and international dance champion, Accursio Romeo.
Other areas of the country have run their own charity versions of ‘Strictly Dancing’, but none have had the good fortune to be backed by a professional with the dance pedigree of Accursio.
He has 24 years’ ballroom and Latin dance experience, was ranked second in England in 10 ballroom and Latin dance championships as an amateur, before turning professional five years ago.
Accursio is a local boy brought up in Bletchley and following his success wanted to give something back to the community in the form of fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support and Willen Hospice.
He said: “I started dancing at the age of nine. By the time I was 15, I was dancing and representing England and am now fortunate enough to run my own dance school in Milton Keynes, called JustDance.”
Accursio dances professionally across the world, and is proud to currently rank sixth in the UK professional ballroom category.
He added: “I am privileged to receive invitations to lecture and teach workshops across Europe and to teach students of all levels, from beginners to top competitors.
But it was when he was asked to judge at a couple of charity ‘Strictly Dancing’ events that he came up with the idea of a Strictly MK.
He explained: “My aim was to stick as closely as possible to the popular TV show format, but I wanted to add my own special twist and I think we have achieved that.
“I was determined all the pro dancers had to be top competitors from the ballroom and Latin circuit. From the very beginning, it was important that Strictly MK reflect only the best in dancing.
“To get the ball rolling, I called on the experience of events organiser/promoter Lindsey Inchbald at Lindsey-Anne Events. Together we have worked hard to form Strictly MK and attracted huge sponsorship.”
The event on October 26 promises to be a glittering event which will be followed by the Strictly MK Juniors the following day.
Said Accursio: “We now need the people of MK to get behind us and buy tickets to create an electric atmosphere at the event.”
