ANOTHER chapter in the fantastic story of 15-year-old Giorgio Rasulo was written on Thursday night when the Dons striker scored the winning goal for England U16s on his debut.
In his first international outing, Rasulo came off the bench to net a dramatic late winner in the 1-0 win over Scotland at the Pirelli Stadium in Burton, giving England the Victory Shield for a 12th consecutive season.
England had already beaten Northern Ireland and Wales in the competition, but in front of more than 2,000 spectators, a draw looked to be on the cards until Rasulo struck with almost the last kick of the game.
Good work from substitute Callum Cooke on the left allowed him to burst into the box, where he attempted a one-two with Rasulo. Ryan Caird slid in to block, but the ball rolled invitingly to Rasulo who reacted quickly and curled it into the far corner of the net.
It’s been an incredible month for Rasulo who was called up to the England squad for the first time the day after getting his first taste of senior football in Dons’ FA Cup first round win over Cambridge City. He also scored twice for the club’s U18s in their FA Youth Cup game against Stevenage.
