Councillor Douglas McCall has been elected as the new group leader for the Liberal Democrats.
Last night the group held their Council Group AGM and elected councillor McCall as Group Leader in the wake of councillor Sam Crooks losing his seat in the Middleton ward.
Douglas McCall was first elected to the MK Council in 1996. He was a member of the Lib Dems Cabinet from 2002 to 2009 and as Cabinet member for the Environment reintroduced weekly recycling. He was Deputy Leader last year and has just been re-elected for Newport Pagnell South ward with an increased majority and a larger share of the vote (55%).
Councillor McCall said: “This year will be very challenging. The Lib Dems will be pushing to ensure more is done to bring more jobs to Milton Keynes, especially for our younger residents, and to start building those council houses”.
Councillor Cec Tallack was elected as Deputy Leader of the Lib Dem Council Group.
