Dragons roar across Willen Lake

Thousands of people lined the banks of Willen Lake on Sunday for the 12th annual Dragon Boat Festival.

More than 1,000 people, from 60 teams took to the water for races, organised by Gable Events, with five boats racing at a time.

The event raised money for Willen Hospice.

Prizes were awarded for the top five crews, the top mixed crew, the best dressed crew and the team that raised the most money on the day.

The Plastic Fantastics from Nampak Plastics won the final race with a time of 66.19 seconds.

They edged out second placed Rexam Bulldogs from Rexam Beverage Can Ltd and Keuhne-Nagel’s Brinklow Barbarians.

In the mixed event Sparkling Result from Winterhalter Ltd were the winners and the best dressed team came from Neves Solicitors courtesy of The Bee’s Neves.

B/E One For All from B/E Aerospace SAO were the charity winners who raised more than £5,000 for Willen Hospice

They won the Charity trophy and a £300 prize meal voucher courtesy of The Swan at Salford.

MK Lettings & Co raised more than £1,000 and a number of Gold and Silver teams helped to add £5,750 to the fundraising total.
