Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a dragon boat... and some planes thrown in for good measure.

This July, commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, the RAF Benevolent Fund are laying down a dragon boat challenge at Willen Lake.

Open to all comers, crews of 17 (16 rowers a drummer to keep the pace) will take to the waters in a packed day of competitive water sports action.

Dragon boat racing is a competitive team rowing sport that dates back over 2000 years to Ancient China, and is still a popular rowing team sport to this day.

People can sign up to compete as a team, part of a team or individually - teams will be allocated for those without a full crew. Those wishing to take part must be over 18, or 16 with parental permission.

For those who just want to watch from the safety of dry land, there will be plenty of attractions, entertainment and refreshment going on away from the water.

While with eyes in the sky, the RAF will be performing fly overs during the afternoon.

The event takes place on Saturday July 11.

Team entry costs £43.
