AS many as 14 drivers were reported for turning around on the A5 dual carriageway after an accident caused lengthy tailbacks.
At around 7.48am on Sunday, a black Seat Ibiza crashed into the central reservation of the A5 southbound.
Both lanes of the carriageway were closed as emergency services cleared the area and treated a woman who had been driving the car.
But police officers were forced to take action when some drivers approaching the resulting tailbacks decided to turn around in the carriageway and drive back into the oncoming traffic.
PC Steve Leathersich, of the Roads Policing Unit based in Milton Keynes, said: “This was extremely dangerous behaviour by these individuals, including the driver of a bus.
“We managed to stop and report at least 14 of the drivers and we have their details, but I cannot emphasise enough how foolish and potentially life-threatening their actions were and they were lucky that nobody was hurt.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Leathersich via the 24-hour Thames Valley Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505.
