When we launched the Citizen campaign for a new A&E back in February, we thought we were in for the long haul.
After all, we were talking about securing £20million for a much needed facility – from a cash strapped government and, and at a time the NHS is in crisis.
So we applaud our readers who rallied to the cause to help support the campaign with hundreds of you signing our petition both in print and online.
And it’s a big pat on the back for our hard working MPs Mark Lancaster and Iain Stewart who have been at the forefront of our campaign.
They are now confident funding for a new A&E is just around the corner which is fantastic news for the city.
To celebrate they joined the Citizen team outside the hospital last Saturday for a last minute push for further support and signatures to boost the campaign further still.
An announcement of a new A&E may not help alleviate the expected pressure on the department this winter, but is something to look forward to and reinforces the message that people power really works.
So thanks once again to everyone who backed our campaign.
