Parents and carers of children who are due to start school, transfer to Year 3, or move to secondary school in September can apply now for places.
Applications can be made online at www.milton-keynes.gov.uk/schooladmissions
The deadline is October 31 for those moving to secondary school, and January 15 for those starting school for the first time or transferring into Year 3.
Parents are asked to state three preferences on the application form, including their catchment school. They should in no circumstances list the same school three times. This will give their child the best possible opportunity of getting the place they would like.
The council has also produced an admissions guide to provide more information regarding each school, and parents are advised to make sure they are aware of the admissions criteria of the schools they are interested in.
Councillor Norman Miles, lead member for children and lifelong learning said: “We are pleased to say that the majority of children and young people are allocated one of their preferred schools.
“While we will do everything we can to meet the preferences stated by parents, schools have a limit on the number of children they can accept.
“It is important that parents take the time to find out about the admissions process as soon as possible if their child is due to start or move school so they can secure a suitable school place for their child.”
