CREATIVE budding chefs at Busy Bees Nursery in Oldbrook are enjoying the launch of a new scheme called ‘Cooking with me’.
The scheme is in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage framework and gets children cooking from an early age.
Groups of youngsters are encouraged to work together to create recipes and explore other activities – such as painting, dressing up and role play – based on their cooking themes.
Cooking develops skills such as time, measuring, counting and weighing and introduces tots to science by helping them to investigate, predict, experiment and observe.
Reading recipe cards and encouraging critical skills when it comes to the all-important taste test are also added skills.
Nursery Manager, Julie Boulton, said: “There are lots of learning experiences that ‘Cooking with me’ will give the children.
“There is a sense of adventure in cooking for children and staff.”
