EU referendum: MP warns of '˜economic turbulence'

City MP Mark Lancaster has warned that the UK could face 'short-term economic turbulence' following yesterday's EU referendum vote.

The Milton Keynes North MP, who is a junior minister in David Cameron’s government, has long been regarded as a Eurosceptic but has admitted to fears for what a Brexit would mean for the city.

He said: “I fully accept the result and have no doubt that the UK will prosper outside of the EU in the medium term.

“I am concerned that there will now be some short term economic turbulence and my priority will be to do all that I can to protect Milton Keynes from any negative impact this decision could have on our local economy.”

Milton Keynes South MP Iain Stewart has also been approached for comment.
