A FORMER councillor has taken to Twitter to blast the authority’s planning department.

Sam Potts, who served as the member for Sherrington between May 2007 and May 2011, was commenting on this newspaper’s front page story regarding the relationship between Mayor Catriona Morris and assistant director of planning Nick Fenwick.

Conservative Miss Morris had a meeting with Milton Keynes Council chief executive David Hill yesterday (Wednesday) to dicuss the romance after concerns were expressed by some opposition councillors.

Miss Morris has been living with Mr Fenwick for more than a year and, she told the Citizen, has always been perfectly open about the relationship.

But members of the Liberal Democrat and Labour parties had expressed concern the alliance could prevent Mr Fenwick from working in an unbiased and professional manner – resulting in yesterday’s meeting.

Speaking to the Citizen before the meeting, Lib Dem leader Douglas McCall said: “It is the responsibility of the chief executive to make sure council members have confidence in all senior officers.”

And today Mr Potts, who served as a Lib Dem, tweeted from his @smapotts25 account: ‘Douglas McCall quote made me laugh today – no one has any confidence in the Planning Dept. on MK Council. #whatashower’

When questioned about the comment, he added: ‘It was by far and away the department I had most complaints about – the wind farm been the most blatant of these’.
