City MPs Mark Lancaster and Iain Stewart have taken the Citizen’s campaign for a new A&E at Milton Keynes hospital right to the top.

The campaign, which calls for a new A&E to be built, was presented to the Secretary of State for Health, Jeremy Hunt, in the House of Commons.

Mr Hunt was given a copy of last week’s Citizen featuring the campaign and applauded the city’s two MPs for putting their local communities’ needs first.

Mr Lancaster said: “I am really pleased we were able to take our campaign to Jeremy and talk to him about it and for his positive response.

“I am looking forward to having further conversations with him and using the parliamentary process to secure the A&E’s future.”

Mr Stewart added: “Raising the issue of funding for a new A&E with the Health Secretary has been an important step in securing a positive outcome for this campaign.

“I was pleased with Jeremy’s willingness to listen to our concerns and hope we can start to see some progress in the near future.” Mr Hunt said: “The Trust is developing a business case for the redevelopment of its A&E department to meet present and future demand on services. I understand that the Trust expects a capital requirement of around £20 million and I look forward to being updated by Mark and Iain.”
