Business advisers from Grant Thornton made a donation to the MK Food Bank to spread festive cheer - just in time for Christmas.

The team visited the Food Bank centre to drop off a delivery of food plus a cheque for £243 to support the initiative during the busy holiday season.

Grant Thornton raised the money when a team from the Milton Keynes office completed a six kilometre charity relay race at Willen Lake earlier in the year.

The MK Food bank is run by local community volunteers and provides essential food supplies such as milk, pasta, rice, vegetables and cereals to families and individuals in need.

Set up in 2004 by the Milton Keynes Christian Centre, the food bank relies entirely on donations from the public and local businesses.

Kevin Gale, partner at Grant Thornton’s Milton Keynes office, said: “Whilst Milton Keynes is a growing and vibrant city there are still many local people who find it hard to make ends meet and struggle to feed themselves and their families.

“As well as supporting our clients, we believe it is essential to help make a difference in the local community and we are delighted to make this donation to the MK Food Bank to support the valuable work they do, especially at this busy time of year.”

The team at Grant Thornton has also raised over £5,000 during the last 12 months for its nominated charity MK Snap which supports people with physical and learning disabilities.

Kevin Gale added: “It’s fantastic to see everyone in the office getting involved and supporting these important causes in Milton Keynes. We look forward to raising even more money in 2016.”
