Members of the Milton Keynes and District MS Society have been presented with a cheque for £2,900 from the Santander Foundation. The money will support the swim club which meets for an hour each week during term time and allows for the exclusive use of the Leon Leisure Centre swimming pool, a lifeguard, a qualified aerobics instructor and a carer to assist dressing and access to the pool. Anyone with MS in Milton Keynes who wishes to attend the weekly sessions can benefit as swimming provides a safe environment in which to exercise.
The donation was provided by the Santander Foundation which offers grants to UK registered charities for projects that help disadvantaged people in local communities.
The cheque was presented to members of the society by Lynn Theodosi, manager of Santander’s head office branch at Grafton Gate as part of a visit to the monthly MS Drop In at the Age UK centre at Peartree bridge.
The MS Society branch is dependent on donations for funds which support a wide range of needs such as minor alterations in people’s homes, days out, providing transport and enabling people with MS and their carers to have a holiday.
A spokesperson from the Santander Foundation said: “The Santander Foundation makes hundreds of donations every year to good causes throughout the UK. We are committed to playing a key part in the community and we are delighted to be supporting the Milton Keynes and District MS Society and hope the donation makes a real difference to local people.”
