DOZENS of people gathered on New Years Eve to celebrate the life of murdered schoolboy Adil Basharat.
The March for Adil Basharat – Make a Stand event started in Wolverton Square at 11.30pm and saw friends and family walking around Wolverton to some of Adil’s favourite spots sharing and celebrating memories.
Zain Hussain, one of the organisers, said: “Seeing the New Year in is something that Adil should have been doing with us, his friends, his family.
“We wanted to do this to remember Adil and start to think about how in 2011 we cannot let this happen to another young person. It’s time we all made a stand against things that simply don’t need to go on in our society or in the UK.”
The Adil Bashart Foundation charity has also been formed with its own dedicated page on Facebook. Proceeds raised will be used to dig wells for the provision of clean drinking water in the most remote villages of Pakistan, and a memorial garden for Adil’s friends, and pupils of Kingsbrook School.
A song, entitled Fallen Soldier is available by contacting Adil’s girlfriend Nisha Patel, on email@example.com. All proceeds will go to the charity.
