Shenley Brook End School students were celebrating after receiving their GCSE results as 67 per cent of them gained five or more GCSEs at A* to C, including English and maths.

A total of 96 per cent of students gained five or more GCSE passes, much to the delight of headteacher Glen Martin.

He said: “I am pleased for everyone that their hard work has been rewarded with these excellent results. Students, staff and parents have all contributed to this fantastic achievement.

“Although some of our students have been affected by the unfair changes to the pass mark in English that started last year, they have responded through hard work to achieve the fantastic result of gaining A* to C grades in over 80 per cent of all 3,500 subject entries, and 50 per cent at A* to B.”

The results at the school included 34 students who attained 10 or more A* and A grades each, while seven youngsters gained over 100 A* and A grades between them.

A quarter of all exams were graded at A* or A and over half of all students gained at least one A* or A.

Many students achieved excellent grades, including: Elle Deane with 14 A*s and three As; Toby Spurrell with 12 A*s and four As; Catherine Nicholls with 12 A*s and four As; Sean Reynolds with 11 A*s and five As; Thomas Theurer with eight A*s and nine As; and Anjuli Sharma with eight A*s and eight As.
